It is that time of year when you walk outside, the air smells crisp and the skies are a little grey. Jack Frost has touched the window panes with his magic fingers and the ice scraper needs to come out of the glove box in order to scrape off the front car window. Street lights take on a new aura as their red and green lights blink on and off. You begin to drive down the side streets on your way home to see who has the best light show on their lawn, and the children have sent their wish lists off to Santa. If you haven’t guessed what time of year it is, it is Christmas time.

Christmas itself represents a Holiday season that has taken on countless meanings all over this diverse country of ours; from snow covered hills to pink lights on palm trees, nativity scenes to peppermint pigs. Ebenezer Scrooge and The Grinch, as well as Miracle on 34th Street and It’s A Wonderful Life, all hold a special place in our hearts. Some of us may travel across the country during Christmas time, while others of us may simply travel across the street.

No matter what our Christmas traditions are, there is one very strong connection that we all share. Recent events in our country’s history, [9-11, Hurricane Katrina], remind us all of this connection and continue to strengthen that bond every day. This time of year we gather together with friends and family. As we gather, some of us may celebrate the birth of Christ, some of us may light candles on a Menorah, some of us may simply unwrap gifts with glee without a second thought. Yet there is no doubt, no question, that we all gather to celebrate each other.

We gather to celebrate life, and family, and those we love. We gather to enjoy good food, good conversation and good company. We reminisce about past holidays, remember those we love who are no longer with us, and plan for the future. We share photos, we share gifts, and we share laughs. At Christmas time we look for the innocent sparkle in our children’s eyes as we help them to create their own memories, and tuck them soundly into bed with a smile on their faces as ‘visions of sugar plums dance in their heads’.

No matter our age, our race, or our nationality; No matter our heritage, our upbringing, or our traditions; At Christmas time, we live, we laugh, and we love.

Both TAG Heuer and Breitling are well known luxury watch brands that have been around for over 100 years. Known especially for producing high precision sports watches and chronographs, these brands are constantly inventing and releasing new mechanisms and models that continue to please their fans and raise the bar of watchmaking.

Breitling has been manufacturing watches since 1884. Originally created for aviation pilots, Breitling watches are unmatched when it comes to precision time keeping, functionality and quality that can withstand harsh conditions and high pressure.

As Breitling gears up for its 125th anniversary, a new watch will hit the scenes. The Cosmonaute is a new watch based on an "oldie but goodie". The original Cosmonaute made international headlines and became a part of history when it was worn on the wrist of American astronaut Scott Carpenter when he made a successful trip to space in May of 1962.

Breitling crafted the Cosmonaute to be capable of indicating 24 hours in one single sweep of the dial, because in space there is no distinction between day and night. The new version of the Cosmonaute will retain this feature as well as the iconic 60's design. 1,000 of these new Cosmonaute watches will be produced.

Also on the forefront of watchmaking is TAG Heuer, who known for its "Swiss avant-garde" approach to watchmaking, has been creating a strong brand of sports watches and chronographs since 1860.

Like Breitling, TAG Heuer also is launching a new version of an older watch, but this time, it does something the older version never did, nor can any other watch in the world do.

The TAG Heuer Monaco V4 watch has been in the works for five years and will make its debut in November of this year and coincides with the 150th anniversary of the company.

The Monaco collection of men's and women's watches by TAG has been popular since one was worn by Steve McQueen in the classic 1971 race car film "Le Mans."

The Monaco V4 debuts as the world's first mechanical watch with a "belt-driven movement and linear winding mass." This watch will be produced in a very limited edition of only 150 pieces.

The Monaco V4 puts TAG Heuer down in the book of watchmaking history because it does what no other watch company has, which is a complete replacement of the usual gears and pinions used in mechanical movements. The gears and pinions typically used have been replaced with belt drives and ball bearings. Each belt, of which there are five, measure as big as a human hair, making the integration and functioning of them seem almost impossible, but TAG does it.

The typical centralized circular rotor winding system has also been completely replaced, this time with a linear winding mass. For this innovative development work TAG Heuer received two global patents.

Each of the 150 Monaco V4 watches is hand assembled, are cased in platinum, measure 40.5mm and are expected to sell for around $97,614.56.

Christmas is a wonderful, magical time of year. It is a time of happiness and of creating joyful memories. Disneyland is a wonderful, magical, happy place, where one creates joyful memories. To experience Christmas at Disneyland, would enhance both of them.

Disneyland takes on a special look at Christmas. Although it is crowded for this season, the crowds are manageable if you plan ahead. The winter's biggest crowds are over Thanksgiving weekend and from Christmas Eve to New Years, but even in December before Christmas Eve it can be crowded. It would be a good idea if you are going for more than one day, to buy your Disneyland tickets online in advance. It is also wise to use Ridemax to avoid standing in line. If you are interested in tours such as the "Walk in Walt's Footsteps Tour", you should reserve them more than a month in advance at 714-781-4400. Reservations for Disneyland restaurants should be made at least two weeks, and preferably up to a month, in advance at 714-781-3463

The Christmas decorations at Disneyland are best in Toontown and New Orleans Square, although they are found throughout the park. In Town Square, at the end of Main Street, there is a 60 ft. Christmas tree covered with thousands of lights and ornaments. In New Orleans Square, every alcove and balcony is decorated for Christmas, and each lamp post is decorated with a different color scheme.

There are all kinds of special things to see and do at Disneyland at Christmas. Here are a few ideas:

1) You can enjoy the holiday makeover of "It's a Small World". There are colorful wreaths and garlands, each one detailed and unique, decorating the promenade leading up to the attraction. At night the facade looks magical with over 300,000 colorful lights. When you go inside, each country is decorated for Christmas and it is fun to try to spot the clever details of the holiday traditions. The theme song is blended with Jingle Bells, Deck the Halls, and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

2) You can watch the holiday fireworks and snow. The red and green fireworks are shot off above Sleeping Beauty's castle, accompanied by music. The best places to see them would be facing the castle, on a bench, preferably closer to Tomorrowland than Frontierland, so that the fireworks will look like they're behind the castle. Plan on waiting an hour or two for a prime spot on a bench, especially in the snowfall locations. Pick up a map of the park at the gate to find out where the selected spots are that snow will fall just after the fireworks end. As "White Christmas" is played, icicles appear on the castle and snow starts swirling around.

3) You can watch the Disney Christmas parade travel down Main Street (the most crowded but the most beautiful place to see it is the Main Street train station platform), through Fantasyland and towards the Town Square. Check the entertainment schedule when you arrive to find out the parade times and which direction it will be going in. Disney princes and princesses, as well as other Disney characters, are joined by marching nutcrackers, toy soldiers, and dancing snowmen. Santa himself is riding on a giant sleigh.

4) You can enjoy the Christmas carolers who travel around the park performing popular Christmas tunes from around the world. They, muffs and all, perform traditional carols up and down Main Street. Check in the daily entertainment schedule for their performance times.

5) You can enjoy great Christmas food on Main Street. Children, for about five dollars, can get and decorate a large sugar cookie with a choice of two frostings and two sprinkles. Watch out for the blue icing, it will permanently dye your lips. You can get gingerbread men at the Blue Ribbon Bakery during November and December. Every Friday in December you can get fresh candy canes at the Main Street candy shop. You can even watch them making the candy canes through the window of the Candy Kitchen.

One of my biggest challenges each year is coming up with the best Christmas gift for grandparents that I can find. This is hard because my grandparents don’t really need much, and a ‘no gift’ rule has been in place for a few years now. I, of course, ignore this, but I do make sure I find something simple, and perhaps something that might not be too expensive so they don’t feel like they have to reciprocate. My grandparents love the outdoors. They had their own dairy farm right up until retirement, and that meant they worked outside most of the time. Have you ever thought about how crazy people get during the holiday season? They complain about the number of people at the mall and how hard it is to find parking and that they are maxing out their credit limits. Every year after Christmas there are huge sales. This is when I do a great deal of my shopping and I get great cheap Christmas gifts. By cheap I mean the price, the quality is always great. Each year I buy for roughly the same people. There may be a birth in the family or an addition of a friend, but the core people remain the same. As I am shopping through the year if I see something that I think would make a nice gift for someone I will buy it, especially if it is one sale. This way I am able to safe money with the cheap Christmas presents, yet the person gets a nice gift. Many times during the holidays if you are looking for cheap Christmas presents they look cheap, and everyone that haws been out shopping has also seen the items and knows that they are cheap. We all like to save money, especially on the gifts we give, but we do not want to be considered cheap.

By spreading out the gift buying through the year I do not put such a big strain on my pocketbook all at once. Also I do not have to spend as much time in the malls when they are crowded. I'd therefore recommend a box of Jumping Beans which wriggle and jump unpredictably for the kids to try and catch. As it is Christmas, why not let them try chase and catch the beans to their hearts content! A box of 5 jumping beans can be bought for less than £2.5. Arts and crafts- for the quieter child who prefers to draw and make thing, I would suggest a set of fashion doll stickers, colouring pencils or a mini arts set. I did not grow up in a very religious family. As a matter of fact, I think my father was an atheist. We didn't really talk about religion very often, and we only went to church a couple times a year. Nevertheless, we loved Christmas. There was the gift giving, the decorating, and most of all, the Christmas tree. Christmas trees were a fine tradition in my family. We would put more effort into decorating the tree every year than we would put in to almost anything. We would start picking out new Christmas decorations month ahead of time, get the whole room prepared, and finally go and pick out a tree.

Sometimes, we would have to get an artificial tree. We moved around a lot because of my dad's job, and some apartments simply won't accommodate a nice big Christmas tree. Nevertheless, some of the artificial Christmas trees were pretty nice. My favorite times, however, were when we got to go out to the woods and pick out a fresh tree to cut down and take back home. There is nothing like natural xmas trees. They have a beautiful scent, a natural look, and a majesty that imitations can never quite capture.

Of course, the Christmas tree ornaments are every bit as important as the tree itself. In my family, we would switch off duty as lead decorator. In particular, we would each have a chance to pick out the Christmas topper. One year, I even made a Christmas Star myself out of papier-mâché. When I saw it years later, I realized that it was not a very well made art project. At the time, however, I was so proud of it. All my family complimented me on it, and it looked great above that Christmas tree. It was one of the best Christmases that I remember, and I still have pictures of it to this very day.

Of course, Christmas lights are also an important part of getting your Christmas tree in shape. When I was growing up, all that we had were those old strands strung in series, the ones where all the lights will go out if one bulb goes out. I remember spending hours going through each individual light bulb, trying to find the culprit. When we got the newer, better quality ones it was a relief. After all, we were all sick of Christmases where the tree lights would go out at the last minute.

Okay, if that is the case – I’m thinking that by February 1st, they should all be packed away in tangled balls for next December. Even worst than seeing Christmas lights this many weeks after the holiday has passed, is seeing the giant Santas and reindeer in people’s yards. One of my neighbors enjoys littering their entire yard and rooftop with tons of decorations for the season. I personally couldn’t be paid enough money to put any of it on my property, but to each their own. This yard still displays a Santa, a reindeer, candy canes, North Pole signs and tons of other things that aren’t just for winter, they are all about Christmas. The most humorous part though is that they still have the giant sleigh on top of their roof lit up every single night. I can’t even imagine what their phone bill is right now. I am tempted to take all of it down and put it on their front porch.

Why do people leave Christmas lights and decorations up? Is it laziness? Is it that they believe that until a certain date it is acceptable? I can’t answer that. I know that on New Year’s Day, my household takes down and puts away all of the Christmas decorations. All of the Christmas lights get taken down and put away as well. I have been fortunate to have wonderful memories of Christmas’ past. My family had many wonderful traditions involving gift giving, baking, visiting relatives and friends and of course attending religious services. Now that I am an adult I continue to see Christmas as a magical time. I rarely stress about what I am going to give people on my gift list because I make the majority of my gifts. Through the year I make several different craft items which I include in Christmas gift baskets along with goodies that I make in my kitchen. I originally started giving the Christmas gift baskets when I was a college student and could not afford a great deal for gifts. Now I continue to give them because the recipients look forward to the homemade goodies they contain.
